Saturday 13 July - Sunday 14 July
TL:DR summary- drove up a mountain, mud races, elephants and tea. :)
Soooooo, being unemployed for exactly three months before taking this trip means that Weekends have somewhat lost their meaning for me. Now that we're settling into a regular Monday- Friday routine and I'm exhausted at the end of each day, I am very excited about having a couple weekends to relax, recharge, and try to sleep in.
Because we're staying in such a small village we all wanted to try and get away for the weekend and see more of the country. After evaluating all our options (we are in the very far northern part of Kerela), we decided to risk a five hour trek to Wayanad.
Going into this weekend, all I knew about Wayanad is that there is a wildlife park in the area (we all want to see elephants!!) and we could do it in a weekend. Turns out that it is also very famous for its tea plantations. Elephants AND tea!? awesome :)
Trying to get 14 people to agree on anything is nye impossible- especially without someone willing to take the reigns and sort out details, and I really wanted to see elephants, soooooo guess who sorta ended up de facto organizer? three guesses and the first two don't count :) yeah, me.
Seriously, I just can't help myself.
Having said that, after this weekend I will take that little obsessive compulsive control freak in me and stuff her in a box and bury her in the back of my suitcase under the bed and not let her see the light of day until I'm out of India. So far the trip has been great, and it will continue to be, but trying to wrangle 13 other people from 4 countries is more difficult than managing exhausted programmers during crunch. So, no more Miss Organizer while in India. Promise.
OK, back to the weekend adventure. And adventure is totally the right word.
there are too many pictures for this to be one post so I've broken it up into three:
- The Road to Wayanad
- Adventuring around Town (Wayanad)
- Jeep Tour (Wayanad Wildlife Park)
